Day 5

So, Day 5 we split up in two directions headed for the same place. Alexis went on a hike with Deb, Ralphie, and the dogs, while Zoe went on a ferry with Grandma and Papa. We eventually met up at Halibut Cove for lunch.

Alexis went on a hike with Deb and Ralphie, to a lake behind a glacier. It was really cool!! Alexis took some great pictures, but they can't define how... pretty everything was. It was about.. 2 miles each way, so about 4 miles round trip.. on the fist picture in the second row,you can see Raphie's boat tied up at the buouy. He had to kayak out to get to it :.) On one of the pictures, Deb is standing next to that giant pile of rocks that marked the trail, because it can get confusing at times.. Unfortunately we did not see any bear, but we saw some relatively fresh bear poop. I know that it isn't the same, but hey- it's better than not seeing anything!! There were so many icebegs in the water, and if we threw a stick out there, the dogs would swim out in 30 some degrees water just to retrieve it :.) But it was a very fun hike!! The ice was so perfect.. I don't know why but I really liked taking pictures of it, completely ignoring the scenery, taking pictures of ice.. Yeah.. That sounds weird enough to be me, but I really like the pictures that I got, because they showed just how perfect the ice was.

Zoe went with Grandma and Papa on a small ferry boat called "The Danny J" to get to Halibut Cove where we were to meet Deb, Ralph, and Alexis for lunch. Halibut Cove is a small town where you can only come and go by boat. There is a boardwalk that surrounds the entire cove that you can walk around. On the way to Halibut Cove we stopped to look at Gull Island. This is a small Island where millions of birds live. There are so many birds on these small rocks that stick out of the water, and the smell was amazing ;) It was amazing to see this many birds in one place.

After we all met up at Halibut Cove, we ate dinner at The Saltry Restaurant. Once we were done we walked around the boardwalk and looked at all the galleries. The most impressive was this gallery of Diana Tillion, an elderly woman who paints with octopus ink. When we got there she was in the gallery and actually got to tell us a little bit about her work. As an understatement we were very impressed.

On the way back, Alexis rode on the "Danny J" with Grandma and Papa and Zoe rode on the boat with Deb, Ralphie, and the dogs. Here is a cute picture of Charlie, Grandma and Papa's dog, looking off the side of the boat as we pull into the harbor. They were happy to be close to home since the ride was long and very choppy :)
